We have used SNDM for years to send source physical files as e-mails from our system i. Our ISP recently insisted that we set the ALWRLY parameter of CHGSMTPA to *NONE. SNDM no longer works. Is there any way of setting the parameters of SNDM that is compatible with this setting in the SMTP server?

I assume that you are using your AS/400 (iSeries, System i, whatever) as mail server to relay (forward) mail by some reason. Is it possible for your ISP to provide mail account for your AS/400?

Current config (I guess):
SNDM -> SMTP(OS/400) -> SMTP(ISP) -> Internet

New Config:
SNDM -> SMTP(ISP) -> Internet

Or if your ISP supports POP before SMTP, you may use RCVM with SNDM.

Hope this helps.

Thank you. How do I do this? That is, what on the iSeries needs to be changed to circumvent the SMTP server and send it directly to the ISP?

If your ISP supports mail service, you can use SNDM as common mail client software (e.g. Outlook Express). All you need is name of the SMTP server at ISP, mail account, and direct TCP/IP connection to the SMTP server.

Having that said, there are cases when you cannot use SNDM with some ISPs: :(
- The mail server requires authentication.
- The mail server does not comply SMTP standards.
and so on.

I don't know why your ISP insisted to set the ALWRLY parameter of CHGSMTPA to *NONE, because it does not do any harm unless your system sends SPAM mails.
