 Post subject: zip's from zlib zip command

I just installed zlib for creating zips on my iSeries. It appears to be just fine as it does in fact zip files using the zip command prompt. However, when I go to unzip them on a windows pc using compressed folders, there is nothing there. Did I do something wrong or did I miss something?

I confirmed the same situation on my PC (Windows XP, SP2, Japanese).
It is not a big problem for me because I don't use "Windows compressed folder" to avoid unacceptable overhead of the function.

As I stated at my homepage, my priority is to port future version of info-zip which will support 2GB+ file size, AES encription, unicode file name, and more.

In the meantime, I recommend to use other zip-compatible tools for Windows (e.g. WinZip). Or you may buy PKZIP for i5/OS (Note that I haven't tried it) as I can't guarantee the port...

It seems the only problem with a zip file that I have created is that it stays as CCSID 37 when it gets to the IFS. For me, it has to be 819. Is there a way to change zip so it creates .zip files as 819? I've tried changing the CCSID in the MAKE REXX program. I even tried changing the CCSID after making the zip file. Any thoughts?

I don't understand why you think CCSID is the problem.

IMHO, CCSID attribute of stream file is i/OS unique feature.
The attribute will be removed when you copy stream file from i/OS to other operating systems, including Windows.
